Leftovers

Leftovers

By Wayne Harmon

I enjoy watching cooking shows on television where there is some kind of competition among the chefs. There are plenty of them out there, but a couple of weeks ago one caught my attention because it was unique.

The competitors had to work with leftovers; and I mean leftovers! Half a cheeseburger, leftover fast food French fries, half a loaf of bread, a leftover dish of mac and cheese, etc. It was funny to see the looks on their faces as they were shown the featured ingredients at each stage of the competition.

They did have fully equipped and stocked kitchens, but their culinary creations had to highlight the leftovers.

The amazing thing is that they did it! In the hands of professional and experienced chefs, these throwaway foods became more than they were originally. I was very impressed.

As I was watching this I began to think about how our enemy, that roaring lion James talks about, wants to convince us that our lives are garbage. We have made so many mistakes. We have failed so many times. All that is left is to live out our remaining days in quiet desperation, languishing in the knowledge that we didn’t live up to our potential.

BUT WAIT!! THERE’S MORE!!

There is a Master Chef who fed 5,000+ people with a child’s two-piece fish dinner. He is more than able to take those leftovers of what we think are wasted lives and turn them into a gourmet dish fit for the King’s Table!

Leftovers?

Hardly!

With Jesus NOTHING is wasted!
